At Educator
Day, attendees will gain insight from expert speakers regarding the
special needs of gifted children and youths. Breakout sessions
will enable attendees to learn more about areas particular areas of
interest.

Keynote Speaker
Jean Peterson, Ph.D., Professor Emerita in Educational Studies, Purdue University
Dr. Peterson will discuss the various characteristics associated
with giftedness, how these affect a youth's development, and how
parents can support their gifted child.
About the Speaker: Dr. Peterson has directed school-counselor
preparation in the Department of Educational Studies at Purdue
University, been an award-winning high school English and foreign
language teacher, and created gifted education programs in middle and
high schools. Based on her research into the social and emotional
development of gifted children, Dr. Peterson has written or co-authored
more that 100 books, journal articles and textbook chapters. She
is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and National Certified Counselor,
and served two terms on the Board of Directors of the National
Association for Gifted Children (USA).
Plenary Session Speaker
Dina Brulles, Ph.D., Director
of Gifted Education Services, Paradise Valley Unified School District,
Arizona; Coordinator of Gifted Education Program, Arizona State
University
Dr. Brulles offers a wealth of experience in developing gifted
programming and selecting the education models that best serve the
unique needs of gifted students.
About the Speaker: Dr. Brulles holds a Ph.D. in gifted education
and an M.S. in curriculum and instruction. She is Past President
of the Arizona Association for Gifted and Talented (AAGT) and past
vice-president of SENG (Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted), and
currently serves on SENG’s Editorial Board. She assists school
districts in developing gifted programs and training teachers in the
field of gifted education. Dr. Brulles is co-author of "The cluster Grouping Handbook: A school wide model, and author of "Improving Performance for Gifted Students in a Cluster Grouping Model", Journal for the Education of the Gifted.
